Mainly used in the Cayenne and Panamera models, Porsche V8 twin-turbo engine is a well-known and amazingly powerful power unit. It only takes 5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h on the Cayenne S, and the top speed can reach 273km/h. The rich sound is even more fascinating.
However, due to strict EU Phase 7 regulations, this 4.0L V8 twin-turbo power was originally unable to survive, but there is finally a glimmer of light for the future. Thomas Freimuth, the head of the Porsche Panamera model, recently stated that the factory has started to make adjustments to the V8 engine. It is expected to pass the European Union Phase 7 regulations and extend the service life to July 2030.

“Due to the slight adjustments made to the Euro 7 regulations, our V8 engine can pass the certification even without adding a gasoline-electric system, but it must be exchanged for lower noise. In fact, in recent years, the Panamera V8 noise level has been continuously revised down, and we are continuing to deal with it,” Freimuth said in an interview.
In fact, Porsche is also developing engine sound systems for a series of electric vehicles. The factory is continuing to create a simulated sound similar to a V8 engine for the Taycan. Therefore, it is expected that Porsche will substantially reduce the sound of mechanical operation for V8 engines in the future. Replacing it with simulated sound waves is a way to deal with regulatory requirements. However, the factory also stated that it is not easy to make the simulated sound have the same majestic momentum and emotion as the actual V8 sound, and it still requires a lot of time to develop.
