Although in daily life, we are often reminded not to use smart devices while driving to avoid distraction and accidents. This does not seem to stop Mercedes-Benz from the ambition to create a larger screen. Mercedes-Benz ‘s idea of adding Hyperscreen with an optional price of more than 12,000$, is the most typical example. Things seem to show no signs of stopping.
In an interview with the overseas media Autocar, Markus Schäfer, leader of the brand’s technical department, said that the team’s next research and development focus will be on developing a high-resolution screen with no gaps from left to right. According to what he shared, the brand will next use OLED specifications screens developed by LG, with a width of at least more than 1.4 meters. The goal is to enjoy high-quality audio-visual and gaming experiences in the car.
From this point of view, Mercedes-Benz seems to be addicted to playing with screens. The current highest specification Hyperscreen is composed of a 12.3-inch digital instrument. A 17.7-inch multimedia audio and video host, and a 12.3-inch front passenger touch screen also included. Although it covers a wide area, if you look closely, you can still see the fragmentation of the three screens.
USE OF HYPERSCREEN IN BMW, AUDI AND VW
What are the actions of competitors? BMW has expressed its hope that the screen area and width can be limited to a certain limit, and has no intention of further development. The brand’s focus is on the development of head-up displays to make the overall use process more intuitive. As for Audi, its next-generation model Grandsphere, also has a full-coverage screen. But its mass production and what it will look like after transformation is still a question mark.
Of course, compared to the current novel digital equipment, there are also brands that disagree. For example, Volkswagen has maximized the screen, the criticized steering wheel capacitive touch has also confirmed that it will be changed back to the form of physical buttons.
