Mercedes-AMG launched the PureSpeed, the first model in its Mythos series, ahead of this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix. This two-seater sports car, limited to 250 units, combines F1 design elements with the performance of the AMG One, and features the F1 car’s Halo rollover protection device.

The PureSpeed is based on the latest SL model. The Mythos design team transformed the current four-seat SL into a two-seat Speedster, making significant improvements to create a more aggressive body shape. The most striking change is the inclusion of a Halo-type roll cage, directly inspired by F1 racing cars, which gives the PureSpeed a unique racing atmosphere.

In addition to the Halo roll cage, the PureSpeed incorporates several other F1-inspired design elements, including a sharp shark nose at the front, the elimination of the traditional AMG water tank guard grille, and a central air intake with a large Mercedes-AMG logo. It also features aerodynamic enhancements such as a diffuser and spoiler.

The humps behind the seats and the car number 10 are inspired by the 300 SLR used by Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson to win the 1955 Mille Miglia. The body color ranges from LeMans red to graphite gray, paying tribute to the Mercedes car that won the Targa Florio event in 1924.

Regarding the PureSpeed’s powertrain, Mercedes-AMG has not disclosed details yet. It is likely to use the 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine from the SL63, but it is unclear whether it will be the 577 hp base version or the 805 hp E Performance version.

Mythos is a new high-end brand from Mercedes-AMG, focusing on limited-edition high-performance cars. PureSpeed is the first model in the Mythos series, with more limited-edition models to follow.

The launch of the PureSpeed represents Mercedes-AMG’s entry into the lucrative customized car market. As more high-end consumers demand unique and personalized products, Mercedes-AMG is expanding its portfolio to cater to this segment of the market.
