The Ferrari 296 Challenge Race Coupe is the first V6-powered sports car in the series, as well as a racing car that holds the record for power per liter for the segment. Like the 296 GT3 model, the new sports car is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine.
Engine output is slightly higher – 700 hp and 740 Nm against 600 hp and 710 Nm. In fact, the Italians achieved these indicators without a hybrid superstructure.
The Ferrari 296 Challenge sports car is the ninth model produced for the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli monocup, as well as the series’ first V6-powered car. Although it is technically more similar to the 296 GT3 model, it is based on the regular 296 GTB coupe.
At least they have a common engine: a 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine. The power unit produces 700 horsepower and 740 Nm of torque. The Italians did not use a hybrid superstructure. It was this engine that provided the innovation with a ratio of power per liter that is considered a record for the segment – 234 horsepower per liter.
Of course, things weren’t just limited to the engine – the Ferrari 296 Challenge surpassed its predecessors in terms of aerodynamics as well. Aerodynamics has been worked out so carefully that the aerodynamic strut produces a downforce equal to 870 kilograms at a speed of 250 km/h.
According to Ferrari representatives, this indicator is an indicator that has never been seen in a monocup. At the same time, the sports car received ABS Evo Track controller, CCM-R Plus carbon-ceramic rotors and specially designed Pirelli tires, which allows more precise adjustment of the braking force on the rear wheels.
Ferrari will present the new 296 Challenge at its Finali Mondiali event at the Mugello circuit, scheduled to run between October 24th and 30th.
